1. How much will it cost me to get help from the Heartland Chaplain Corps?
NOTHING. Yes, nothing. While there are some Chaplains that get paid to work full-time as Chaplains, the Heartland Chaplain Corps is here to provide you assistance for free. We have a large team of I.F.O.C. Certified Chaplains ready and willing to help!
2. What is the difference between a Chaplain and a Pastor?
Common question! A Pastor is typically affiliated with a religious denomination, and often focuses mainly on working with members of his/her church. A Chaplain serves the entire community, and may have a personal religious denomination, but that is not focused on or discussed in their Chaplaincy work unless asked. Chaplains provide spiritual care and emotional support to anyone that needs it, no matter what their religious affiliation is. Chaplains think of themselves as “the hands and feet of Jesus” in the community, loving their community members as He would love them. They also go through special training and are certified by the IFOC to help people in periods of trauma, crisis, and grief. Chaplains help people where they’re at, and provide a helping hand and listening ear when people need it most. Sometimes when bad things happen to you, it feels like you’re all alone in a dark forest…a Chaplain will help you walk through that forest back into the sunshine! Chaplains try to help people in tough situations develop resiliency and positive coping mechanisms, so they can move past that situation, rather than staying in it mentally. They are trained to provide counsel, education, advocacy, life-improvement skills, stress management, and recovery training.
